Google integrates videos from Instagram and Tiktok on a test basis

Google is apparently testing a new feature that will display short videos from Instagram and TikTok in search results.

Google is working on integrating short videos from social media platforms into search. Currently, it is testing the integration of Instagram and Tiktok videos. First, Brian Freiesleben pointed out the videos in a tweet, meanwhile Techcrunch, among others, replicated the discovery.

Search multiple platforms via Google

Back in October, Google introduced a new story format for Google Discover. The tool is based on Google’s AMP Stories and is an option for publishers to present content on the search engine as a so-called web story.

In contrast, the new Short Stories is about embedding content from other platforms. Google thus provides the option to search video content from multiple platforms.

The feature still very limited

According to Techcrunch, clicking on a video opens the web version of the respective platform. Accordingly, Google has confirmed that the feature is currently being tested on mobile devices in both the app and the web version, but is very limited so far.

In August, the search engine had already tested an area for short videos, but focused on content from YouTube or Google’s DIY video platform Tangi, among others.

The expansion to Instagram and Tiktok would make it possible to search for a specific video without opening the corresponding app.
