Instagram has introduced a new format for sharing curated, scrollable content: Instagram Guides.

What are Instagram guides?

Guides are a brand new way to share and consume content on Instagram. They allow users to follow a curated flow of posts with comments – which is great for step-by-step tutorials, tips, and recommendations.

Originally, Instagram enabled the Guides feature for a select number of health and wellness advocates in an effort to provide resources for people struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

How are Instagram Guides created?

To use the new feature, you’ll need to click on the plus icon at the top right of your profile page and select “Guides.” From there, you can choose from 3 different formats:

  • Places: Recommend places in your city and beyond
  • Products: Recommend your favorite products
  • Posts: Recommend posts that you have created or saved

Each format is designed to meet the needs of a Creator. Posts, for example, can be used to curate a thread of Instagram posts (that you’ve created or saved) with custom headlines and comments. This is a really versatile format for sharing inspiration, telling stories, and giving advice or guidance.

Products can only be used if they are available in an Instagram store. This is a great tool for brands or businesses that want to add additional context or commentary to their products. It also opens up new opportunities for partnerships with influencers, as anyone can use this tool to create a list of recommended products.

The Places format is perfect for sharing location-based recommendations, from city guides to restaurants and cafes.

Where can you find Instagram guides?

To access an Instagram Guide, you can simply go to a Creator’s profile page and click on the new Guides icon in the tab. Of course, this icon will only appear if the user has also published content to Instagram Guides.

This new feature is currently available both from the Instagram Explore Page and directly from a user’s profile. Instagram Guides create a whole new way to create and consume content on Instagram – opening up huge opportunities for storytelling and e-commerce on the app. The new feature is especially interesting for businesses and brands to provide more information about products.

In addition to the introduction of the Shopping or Reels button and the keyword search, the Instagram Guides are now the third innovation in a week. It remains exciting which feature will really bring success and inspire users.
